April 26

today was another slower day, not too many people in the gym, i came in a little early today because i didnt have to stay at track for as long. which was nice because i got to see some new people that i dont normally see and nick was able to leave early to take his some to soccer practice. i think this types of thing is good because it shows that you are someone you can count on to be super early rather than a little late. plus you can build more relationships with members when you come at different times.

today was a pretty lack luster day, it is super nice outside so there is maybe 2 people at the gym, the place it utterly spotless so that takes cleaning out. so to be honest i sat in the office and read through my theory of strength and conditioning book hoping for someone to come in. i was sorely disappointed.

April 24

today was another boot camp night. they all arrived about 10 minutes early so the trainer took them through a good mile warm up with a a little dynamic stretch followed by 400 meters. they were all fairly tied but were able to get in done in about 15 minutes which looking at the crowd is a pretty good accomplishment. once everyone was ready we went through a short ab circuits with cross crunch oblique crunches. scissors, leg raises, and bicycles. once this was finished they did stations with the rope pull, box jumps. dead lifts, assisted pull ups and push press. they did each exercise for 45 seconds with about 10 seconds rest between for 3 reps each. once this was finished they did a really short interval workout on the ark trainers with 30 seconds easy 15 seconds as hard as possible for about 3 or so minutes. really it was a good workout for their level of fitness.

April 23

Today is the start of my last week here at snap fitness. I started it out with some light cleaning and membership filing from last weeks sign ups. no one came in for a sign up and i dont think our trainer had any clients tonight because i dont recall seeing him. however the gym was pretty busy. there was a steady flow of people from the time i came in to now. i talked to a few of the people that are regulars at this time and helped spot a younger kid on the bench press. other than that i really didnt do a whole lot.

Today i was supposed to help our trainer with some client training but two out of our four people decided they wanted to leave town at the last minute. and low and behold they were the two i was going to work with. as far as this experience goes i thing i gained more knowledge with the sales portion rather than the training portion which leads me to the thought of possibly opening my own gym. but then again i have o business sense what so ever. that means i'd need a partner! either way i think each place will give you a different experience and you wont find the same one where ever you go because the people are different, the way its run is different, and you will gradually learn and grow through it.

April 19

Today they started another session of boot camp. before it began i tried to get through all the little cleaning duties that i had. once that was finished i got in a couple minutes after they started. they were able to use pretty much the whole gym because there really werent too many people here. they did a little circuit with some box pushes, kettle bell swings, rowing machine, treadmill intervals,and some light plyometric training. they all seemed to enjoy it and there were a lot more people signed up for the session than normal so thats very good.

another day another dollar. i got another sign up tonight. it wasnt like a normal sign up. a current member who was very successful in losing a whole bunch of weight wanted to sign her sister up so it would give her the incentive to sign up also. well this just took me right to my heart because theres nothing better that knowing someone cares enough about you to help you make that first step towards becoming healthy. so i cut her an extra sweet deal by not making her pay anything this month or next month is she just paid full on the access card and junes monthly. so really her sister would get a month and a half for free. who can argue with that! plus this woman has been a long time member and she actually just changed her membership agreement from monthly to an 18 month commitment package. so you know she will be sticking around

today there was another younger couple that came in to just get prices. nick had told me before they came in that they wanted some prices and said that i should look to sign them up. i took the challenged and waited for my prey to arrive. they were pretty set on just seeing the prices, but i also through in a couple of free training session with our trainer if they signed up today. also i took 20 dollars off their access card fee. really they had no chance of saying no because i know what the other guys are charging and they made a silly mistake of saying this was they last place they are looking at. i capitalized on it and made them an offer they couldnt refuse.

April 16

today was a pretty good day, i had two different people come in and sign up for memberships. i think after my extended time here i have really gotten the hang of selling the business to people. i really like giving tours and most of the time i can pick out just just looking at somewhat what their interests may be. whether it would be free weight training, cardio, or using the machines. i think this has become a really beneficial aspect of my practicum because it lets you get to know someone a little faster based on their level of fitness and comfort. most of the time when i catch it sport on with what their interests are they end up wanting to sign up, just as they did tonight. it also helps that i am now here during the prime hours of the day.

April 12-13

yesterday i started out by filing what nick had left me to file. come to find out after i had filed them i put them in the wrong drawer. so i had to go through and try and remember what names i had filed. i left a note for nick stating my little mishap but come to find out i retrieved all that were misplaced. i know this because before i do any filing i put them in alphabetical order so i can do it faster. well today i wrote down the number of people in each letter. i came out with the same number and nick said that they matched up when i asked him about it today. today i mostly did a little spot cleaning and come really light chit chat with the members. i spent a lot of my time organizing the end of the month weight challenge people so see who was the winner.

today the gym picked up a little bit. its pretty misleading coming in here at five and there are 20 cars outside but only five or six people in the gym. this is due to the yoga class that starts at 5:30 i think and they all must go up there early for some meditation. i have sat in on it before but i never realized they got there that early. once the class was over the car disappeared and the normal night crew was out doing their workouts. i did some spot cleaning and changed one paper towel dispenser. the rest of spent talking with members and the trainer between clients.

today was a little bit better than yesterday, but still pretty dead, its pretty nice outside too so that may be another reason as to why people arent coming in this week. good news ahead through its supposed to cool off for about a week or so within the next couple of days so maybe it will pick up. there was one guy who came in but when i asked if he needed help he said no he was just going to look around. when i asked if he wanted a tour he said now he could see just fine. i said ooook and went back to the office, he left without a word. very strange to say the least

today was unbelievable slow. people must have eaten too much chocolate over the weekend for eater because there may have been about two people in the gym at a time. i decided to vacuum the entire place instead of sit around a hope someone comes in for help. i didnt realize how big the place was until i was about half way through and sick of the drone from the vacuum cleaner. all in all that was all i did.

today i signed up a single monthly membership to a woman. she had came by after she got off work which was about 6 or so. normally i would leave at seven but she asked if should would be able to come back in about 30 minutes to work out. i said sure because i would be here anyway and her card wouldn't be activated until tomorrow when nick came in. at about 6:50 she came in and i was starting a little clean up duties. but instead i took her through our initial weight plan. she was worked out with weights previously so much of it was review. i gave her a simple plan of the machines listed and she went on her way. i stayed a little later than normal but i believe that happens.

Today i was hit with someone who wanted to place a stand out with some type of herbal stuff thats supposed to give you energy and help you to lose weight. first off i think all that junk is bologna! second of all nick had told me a few stories about his beginning years and letting people set stuff out on the floor and taking a cut of their profit. it never really works the way its intended because some of the people skip out, they dont make a profit and it ends up being a waste of money and time. so i took direction in asking for multiple case studies of the products where it was successful in its promise or statement. they could not provide me with more than one so i said very politely that we would not be interested. i called and told nick and he said well done.

Today was a pretty educational day, i had an older gentlemen that came in that was moving here from florida, normally its the other way around. either way he wanted a tour and some price quotes. he asked if we had any senior discounts. not knowing because i have never come across this i had to call nick. at first he said that we didnt but then he said to give him some sort of a deal because he said "you should never tell someone NO" especially when they are looking to throw money your way. so i tallied out a pretty good deal for him and he decided to sign up so all was good.

Today was another fairly busy day at the gym. there were a lot of people in the gym by the time i got here at five. so most of the cleaning duties that i am able to do right away because of the thinned out crowd had to wait until i was about it leave. which was fine because right after nick left a couple came in for a tour and i took an older gal through our standard weight card with the machine lifts on it. i started her our with some like 2 sets of 10 reps because she doesnt do much weight training and thats right where a beginner should be according to NSCA. I even talked her into a training session with our personal trainer that i would most likely be able to assist with.

Well it turns out that i was correct about the time switch because this is the busiest i have see the gym other than the mornings when i come in to work out. Speaking of which i believe that it is a really good idea for when you are working in any type of establishment that you practice what you preach. meaning that i am in here almost every morning working out and people see that, especially those who come to some of the boot camp classes and are two a day gym goers. they think i live here i believe. but its good for them to see that you are working in the area because its something you are passionate about. most of what i did tonight was talk with the  clientele and further build relationships.
